An oak log, shipped in from the Sandringham Estate,
is set up ready to be converted and subsequently transformed into the new
stem and apron

The old stem and apron are cut away and removed

Having removed the old stem and apron, alignment
is checked by locating the lofted stem pattern onto the dummy apron.

In the absence of a full table of offsets, we have
obtained the stem section shape by setting the stem pattern to the correct
rake and laying fairing battens at each waterline. The angle at each waterline
is marked onto the scrieve board. There were found to be a few significant
discrepancies between the port and starboard sides and after further investigation
we judged that the starboard side should be taken as the better side and
mirrored to port.
